Release date:  11/22/1967

Production commenced 03/20/1967 and wrapped on or about 04/27/1967.

The activity in this film is suppose to be centered around Miami, Florida. In fact none of the main actors even went to Florida for this production. Stand ins and wide shots were used to facilitate the production. Most of the filming, and all with Elvis was conducted in California. Sad. Here I will focus on the footage that was filmed on location in Florida. If you have questions about the California locations, feel free to contact me at- cglide@floridamovielocations.org I will be happy to help.

The soundtrack was recorded first, before the movie was filmed. It was recorded in February 1967, at RCA Studios, 17th Avenue South, Nashville, TN.

The movie starts with the credits rolling. It is an aerial shot over the Florida Everglades and the camera zooms in on a Corvette headed westbound. This shot is reminiscent of a very similar shot used in the Miami Vice episode, Glades as Crockett and Tubbs head out into the Everglades in the Ferrari. The two scenes are so similar that it makes me wonder if Vice had this scene in mind and copied it when they filmed Glades. There are not any unique landmarks seen to identify the exact spot with 100% certainty but this appears to have been filmed on State Road 84, now Alligator Alley in the same vicinity where they latter filmed, Glades just west of Weston, Fl.

As seen in Miami Vice, Glades

This was all second unit footage. When we finally see Elvis driving the Corvette, it is very obvious that this is a studio shot with the scenery projected on the background. The background was filmed on State Road 84/Alligator Alley while Elvis was filmed at Univeral Studios, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, California.

Goof:  Elvis waves at an airboat but he waves in the wrong direction.

Then we cut to Sherman Way in Van Nuys, California as Elvis pulls into a service station. At this point I will not be covering the non-Florida filming here.

Then we return to Florida and Alligator Alley (SR 84 at the time). At least the footage projected behind the actors was filmed in the Florida Everglades even though the final product was filmed at Universal Studios.

If you are looking for it, it is pretty obvious that these are stand ins and not the actors in the on location shots. Location unknown.

Then we see them on a narrower road. Location unknown.

Then we see them pulling off of Hibiscus Island and turning eastbound on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami.

Then the background is the Port of Miami from eastbound on the MacArthur Causeway.

The background image was flipped or reversed as revealed by the backward speed limit sign.

Then eastbound leaving the mainland and headed over the Port Bridge to Dodge Island.

Then westbound over the same bridge. This time headed away from Dodge Island toward the mainland.

Then we see the Corvette continue over another bridge. This appears to be The Julia Tuttle Causeway but not enough is seen to confirm this 100%.

Then an interesting panning shot at an unknown location. It does appear to be in the Miami Area.

Then he pulls up to a “hotel”. This was filmed in California. on set.

Then at about 14:42 into the movie we return to Florida. Again, all of this was filmed by the second unit and the shots where you see the actors close up and you can identify them were shot at the studio with the on location Florida filming projected behind them. The distant shots were all stand ins filmed on location in Florida. We start with a shot looking east just north of the Rickenbacker Causeway. We see the Brickell Townhouse Condo located at 2451 Brickell Avenue, Miami.

Then more footage from north of the Rickenbacker Causeway.

Before returning to the hotel and California.

Then they go for a ride. This looks like it may have been filmed in Florida but the location is unknown.

They end up at the south tip of Key Biscayne in Bill Baggs State Park by the lighthouse. Well at least that one background where we see the light house was filmed there. The rest of the backgrounds in this scene are from California. We see this location used again in Miami Vice, episode 4 Hit List where the safe house is located here as well as in Burn Notice episode 42, Partners In Crime and 52, Where There’s Smoke.

Our next Florida shot is of a speedboat racing along in the Miami Boat Basin located at the west end of Virginia Key.

Then we see them go water skiing. The scenery was filmed on the north side of the Rickenbacker Causeway. They take off from what is now Crandon Beach Park and we see a very undeveloped Brickell shore line. One of the only tall buildings seen in the background is the unique pointed roof of the Dade County Court House. This is where we see a long distant sniper shot in the Miami Vice episode Viking Bikers From Hell.

Dade County Court House

We see the Villa Regina Condos at 1581 Brickell Avenue, under construction in the background.

The next Florida filming comes at about 01:22:47. This is footage filmed at the January 1967 running of the real Orange Bowl International Power Boat Regatta. This was a 250 mile race which took place in the Miami Boat Basin and centered around the Miami Marine Stadium. We have since seen the Miami Marine stadium used in the Miami Vice episode, Yankee Dollar as well as being seen in the background of Definitely Miami. We also see Burn Notice use this location in episode, 38 A Dark Road, 49, Neighborhood Watch, and 59 Brotherly Love. The movies, All About The Benjamins and 2 Fast 2 Furious have also filmed here.

The old Rickenbacker Causeway Bridge.

We get some nice views of the area as it appeared in 1967.

Then the filming returns to California where the movie ends.

THE

END

As seen in Definitely Miami.
